summertime tunic
The Summertime Tunic has been done for a while, just waiting for ribbon to finish it off. I wound up using 6 skeins on Elann Sonata. Toward the end of this project, I decided that I didn't really like the orange after all, and I could kind of tell that I wasn't going to be in love with the tunic, anyway, so I decided to overdye it after all the knitting was done. One package of black Rit dye in the washing machine turned it a nice rich brown. (The uneven coloring in the photo is due to shooting the photo in the mirror, not the dye.) The ribbon I found actually matches quite nicely, but I don't know if I'll really wear this one. I like the length, and it's comfy, but I did something strange where I wound up with way too many stitches on the front, so it's bunchier than it should be. I don't mind it too much, but even after washing, the yarn is a little stiff, so it doesn't drape as nicely as it could. Really, it's just not very flattering and has that homemade (and not in a good way) quality about it. Maybe I'll try wearing it. But I'm sure there a more than a few mass-produced items in my closet that would look much better on me. I think I'll wear it around the house today and then see how I feel.

I wonder if the Sonata would soften up with more washing? I've never used it, though.
At the very least, it looks comfy for wearing around the house.
i like the new color, and the ribbon.
if you really don't think you'll wear it, what about snipping and sewing in some darts? can't hurt if it's going to sit in the closet anyway.
i think it looks great on you and i love the brown color - great job on the overdying! while it's got a slouchy and "free" shape, it doesn't appear to add any bulk, if you know what i mean...
I think it looks good on you! And the white in the ribbon is a nice touch.
oh, i'm so bummed that you're not in love with it because i think it looks fantastic on you! the dye job worked great, it's a lovely shade of brown!
haha - I bought the *exact* same ribbon for my tunic but didn't end up liking it with the yarn color so I went with something else. It looks fantastic with that deep brown though - what a great dye job!
And for what it's worth (which I'm sure is a lot since it's my first time commenting on your blog and we know each other so well ;) I think it looks great on you!
I think it looks great but I also like the idea of snipping it and bringing it in a bit. The dying job is great- LOVE the color.
I made a skirt for my daughter from Elann Sonata and I love it for the skirt but I could see where the drape factor would be an issue on a slouchy top like the tunic. Let us know what you decide to do!
I think it looks really cute on you! That blousey front is very in style right now!
i think it looks beautiful on you!
hhmmm, well, it certainly looks cute and comfy on you! but you really have to be "feeling it" to rock something handknit. i totally understand that!
I too am lovin the "blousy" look in the front! I think it looks fabulous on you! I sure hope the home experiment went well and that you will wear it out!
How awesome that you thought to dye it......i love that chocolate color!
I don't think it looks too bunchy in front at all. It's really cute. I hope you'll wear it out soon and give it a chance. I love that you dyed an orange top with black dye and got that beautiful chocolate color. Success story, fo sho!
I can only agree with everyone else. It looks great, and the colour and the ribbon are a success.
It turn out great! And good choice on the ribbon.
Looks wonderful!!!
I think it's pretty cute! Looks very comfy....

I think it looks great on you as well. The color is gorgeous, and it looks loungy
I think it turned out cute too! I love how the color turned out after dyeing.
Looks pretty to me! I like the color, and I think the fit is just right. I tried making this darn thing 4 times, and after a while I just gave up.
think it's really, really cute! I wouldn't change a thing!
The color is great! And so in the ribbon. :) But I think you're right about it being too bunchy. I'd feel uncomfortable with all that on my chest. Maybe it'll grow on you though.
I like how it looks like, and I specially like the ribbon, but most important is how do you feel wearing it.
It looks wonderful on you!!
Beautiful job on the tunic!
